The simple translation of the word bonsai is ‘potted tree’. There are many variations of this translation but that’s the basic understanding. There are strict cultural rules in how bonsai and the techniques that are used, there is also a more informal artistic approach where the goal is self expression through bonsai. There are terms designated to the different styles of bonsai.
Here at this site the approach is to become a hub where all the spectrum of practices are accessible and hopefully it can become a platform for communication between all styles and approaches.
